The Meaning Behind the Twelve Days
Many families don’t realize that each line of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” is said to hold biblical symbolism. For example:

- A Partridge in a Pear Tree represents Jesus Christ.
- Two Turtle Doves symbolize the Old and New Testaments.
- Three French Hens stand for Faith, Hope, and Love. …and so on through all twelve verses.

Our printable set includes these interpretations alongside the traditional illustrations, making it a perfect blend of fun and faith-filled learning for children and adults alike.
But of course, you know I had to put my spin on each. You’ll notice each traditional and biblical meaning has a slight twist for deeper symbolism and my style. Things that made sense to my brain.

- 8 Maids Milking is a mother milking their jersey cow with her 7 daughters.
- 10 Lords Leaping is now Knights leaping on their horses.
- 11 Piper’s Piping is a fun group of farm children making music on their kazoos.
- 12 Drummer’s Drumming is all the little children of the world drumming their own drums, but in unison.
- The 10 Commandments is a knight in full armor waving a flag that says “thou shalt not”.
- 11 Faithful Apostles is a little boy playing his kazoo, symbolizing faith like a child.
- 12 Tribes is now an illustration of people all over the world being God’s people (world flags).
